6 Data sharing agreement
We established a Data Sharing, Usage, and Authorship Agreement for the PFTC courses that outlines the rights and obligations for all data contributors. It serves as a comprehensive framework to govern the collection, management, and collaborative use of ecological and environmental field data collected during the course. It outlines an inclusive “opt-out” authorship policy based on the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT - Contributor Roles Taxonomy, 2019), ensuring all participants who meet two or more criteria receive co-authorship on resulting publications. Additionally, it defines a centralized process for proposing and tracking manuscripts to prevent research overlap among participants and ensure inactive ‘dead’ manuscripts are managed effectively. Finally, the agreement sets a three-year embargo period, after which all curated datasets are scheduled to transition to an open-access CC-BY license. The students are asked to sign the data sharing agreement.
Our data sharing agreement is available here: PFTC authorship and data sharing agreement.
How papers are proposed after the course is on Papers. The published datasets are in Working with PFTC data.
