Something in the field will not go to plan. A scanner fails, a species cannot be named, a site cannot be reached, or a group falls behind. Solving that is part of the course, not a break in it.
Each evening every group reports what was finished, what worked, and what did not. The next day is set from that report. A decision that changes the protocol or the design is written down, so the data paper can say what was actually done. The alternatives agreed before the course are in Contingency planning. The evening report itself sits in Systematic data collection.
